The brush pile is currently open. You must stop at the office to sign in and receive the key to the gate. Please come only during office hours (calling ahead is preferred

Tire Collection There is no tire collection scheduled for 2022.

***Every ton of disposables the Michigamme Township recycles or composts is a ton of waste Michigamme Township does NOT have to pay for as trash at the Marquette County Landfill.  

Michigamme Township has started an optional recycling program.  If you wish to participate, the Township is providing 2 trailers on the parking lot across from the DPW garage on Barnum Street in the village.  One trailer is for Rigid Materials and the other for ACCEPTABLE  Fiber Materials.  Trailers are open 24 - 7.
  
Rigid Materials:  Plastic, small pieces of metal, aluminum/steel/tin cans, food jars, water bottles, milk jugs, sports drink bottles, non-deposit soda and juice bottles, yogurt, sour cream, cottage cheese container, butter tubs, laundry detergent bottles, fabric softener bottles, drained oil plastic quarts/gallons/jugs, dishes or silverware, hand soap bottles, ice cream buckets, TV dinner trays, pot & pans.  Items may be co-mingled.
  
Acceptable Fiber Materials : Dry fiber, paper, cardboard, books, magazines, junk mail, newspapers, office paper, file folders, envelopes, shredded paper, telephone books, ledger, manila envelopes, sticky notes, paper bags, paper egg cartons, paper plates, paper plates, and non wax paper cups.  PLEASE FLATTEN ALL BOXES.
 
All recycle items must be kept clean (rinsed out), dry, and empty.
  
Landfill Items: (For general household garbage pick-up):  Bubble Wrap, Plastic Bags, Plastic Wrap, Sorel Boots & Styro Foam Items.

Brush or Yard Waste • If you have brush or yard waste, please come to the township office during open hours to sign out the key for the gate before disposing at the brush pile. Disposal hours are Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Other times can be made by calling the office. 

 Marquette County Sharps Disposal Sites:  This new program allows you to bring your used syringes and other sharps to the following locations:  Snyder Drugs, Ishpeming;  Ishpeming; Morrison Pharmacy, Ishpeming.

Electronics can be returned to  Goodwill, and American.  They will not be allowed in the recycling trailers.

Wednesday is regular garbage pick-up day

 Please make sure your garbage is in TIED regular garbage bags and placed in a covered container by 6:00 a.m. weekly. The maximum weight for garbage bags is 35 lbs. If the Township experiences an emergency or inclement weather on the scheduled garbage day, pickup may be delayed until the next available day. Delays will be announced on TV6 and local radio stations.

It is now so easy!   You can combine all recycle except for Glass.  NO GLASS AT ALL.  (Ishpeming does accept glass 1st Wednesday of the month))  You can drive right up to the bins.  They are easy to reach and labeled. 

2022 Dumpster Dates 

​You may be asked to provide proof of property ownership (recent tax statement).  Dumpsters will be available on the dates and times: 
                                      
Spring & Fall Clean-upPlease mark the following dates on your calendar for summer and fall clean-up. Michigamme Township will have dumpsters available on the dates and times listed below: •June 15th through the 18th •AND August 17th through the 20th Wednesday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Thursday, 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM
Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Saturday, 8:00 AM to Noon
Container after container was filled last year.

The following items will not be acceptedSeptic tanks, hazardous materials, gas tanks, complete buildings or shingles. Junk vehicles can be brought to Harsila and Son’s Auto Salvage in Ishpeming or A & L Iron and Metal in Ishpeming. All appliances that contain Freon will be accepted with a $15 payment.

For your information the West Marquette County Transfer Station   West End Transfer Station tickets (located in West Ishpeming) are available for purchase at the township office for $7 per ticket per 100 pounds. Tickets for the disposal of tires are available.
2021 Household Hazardous Waste Collection dates for the transfer station are  TBA

             
            City of Marquette Rubbish/Compost Site: 2021 Marquette County Solid Waste Management Authority (MCSWMA) Household Hazardous Waste Collection Schedule are Thursdays, 3-7 p.m. June 4, July 2, August 6, September 3, and October 1. Forms are available at the township office authorizing you to bring construction materials (shingles, etc.) directly to the Marquette County Landfill. The township has the list of acceptable materials for disposal and bills you directly for the materials you bring there. You can access their website at www.mcswma.com for more details

Tickets for West End Transfer Station can be purchased at the Michigamme Township office Tuesday-Friday - $7 per ticket - good for 100 lbs.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection:
2021 Household Hazardous Waste Collection dates for the transfer station have not yet been determined.
